The following was compiled by CoD players:
Okay, looking at the demographics of levels in this game, it's quite clear that not many new players strive very hard to start out. We've got a little over 100 players that are level 2 and up and over 700 level 1's. That's a little lopsided. So I figure we'll create this topic to help people get through those first few boring and tedious days of picking through dumpsters and not really knowing what to do.
Make money
There are a couple of things you will need to save money for: getting a better house as soon as possible and good weapons. What you will want is to get into at least a shanty ($10,000) and get equipped with a Steyr Aug and a Leather Jacket.
ALWAYS CHECK THE ITEM MARKET BEFORE BUYING NEW WEAPONS FROM THE 'SHOP.' YOU CAN PROBABLY GET THEM CHEAPER FROM SOMEONE ELSE THAN YOU CAN IN THE SHOP. ALWAYS KNOW THE PRICES THOUGH BEFORE YOU BUY. SOME PEOPLE TRY TO SELL FOR MORE TO RIP YOU OFF.
VOTE DAILY!!!!
Overall = $500, 2 uppers, and 50 x your level in Agility and Strength. That adds up over a month!!
Get a Job
2 uppers traded in to the pharmacy for IQ will land you a job at McDaniels immediately.
Old City Ruins
Good way to get some cash and uppers too. Have a few bandaids on-hand though.
Sell your uppers on 'Upper Market'
In general you will get a MUCH better deal selling your uppers on the Upper Market. Don't trade them in the Pharmacy for cash. You'll only get $200 per. You'll get like 5 times that minimum on the upper market if you have patience.
Use energy in the 'Shady Alleyway' for cash
If you can log in once an hour then in just by searching the 'Shady Alleyway' you should be able to get the weapon and armor on the first day.
Leveling
This is by far the most important thing to do in this game. Leveling as fast as possible gives you a serious advantage when training.
Attack, attack, attack
The higher level you attack, the more experience you will get.
Search Abandoned pharmacy every day!!!
Make sure you have bandaids before you start. If you do nothing else everyday, search the Abandoned Pharmacy. This will give you more experience (in the long run) than every other method combined.
Do crimes
Easiest crimes ONLY to start out. You'll still end up in jail sooner or later, but later is better.
Bring a friend
It helps to have a buddy, you can watch each others backs, race to level, attack each other for experience, get married and share/split the cost of housing, share weapons, bust each other out of jail, send each other meds. Bring your own or make a friend in game, but it really helps to have one either way.
Marriage
Married couples can do Marriage crimes at higher levels, and you can make some money and uppers off of them too. Mostly being married is about splitting the cost of the next estate.
Donate
By far the best way to start off your COD career. I'd recommend just paying $25 right off the bat on day 1. In fact, if you go on IRC and talk to PingPong, you might even get her to throw in some bonus stuff!!! (I said might!) But pay attention to the announcements because there is usually a donator special running to throw in a little something extra when you donate...
